Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which players will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
